Peck (unit of measure)

Peck (in German earlier also written Beck ) is a unit of measurement of space ( dry measure ). The unit symbols are: Imp.pk. ( Imperial ), US.pk.

British peck

The older English volume measure Peck, also Pitany, corresponded to a quarter or the mutt . The measure was only permitted for dry goods, such as grain , salt , coal , fish and similar things.

  • 1 peck = 2 gallons = 4 pottles = 8 quarts = 16 pintes = 450 ¼ Parisian cubic inches = 8 37/40 liters = 8.925 liters
  • 4 pecks = 1 bushel
  • 8 pecks = 1 strikes
  • 16 packs = 1 comb
  • 32 pecks = 1 quarter
  • 160 pecks = 1 tun / ton
  • 320 pecks = 1 load / load

The amount of coal on the Thames was calculated as 5 pecks per bushel, or almost 45 liters.
