Peder Munk , also Peter Munk (* 1534 in Lønborggaard , Denmark , † 1623 in Sødringholm ) was a Danish military and politician.

Life

Peder was the son of Ludvik Munk († 1537) and Kirstine Lykke. His brother was Ludvik Munk (1537-1602), the father of Kirsten Munk , who in 1615 married King Christian IV . Olaf Munk († 1569), who was adjunct to the last Catholic bishop of Ribe, Iver Munk , from 1534-1536 , was his uncle. After the death of his father, Peder Munk grew up at the court of Duke Philip I of Pomerania-Wolgast before he entered the service of the Danish-Norwegian King Friedrich II (1559).

From 1564 he took part in the sea war against Sweden during the Three Crowns War and in 1568 became Commander in Chief of the Danish fleet, his Swedish opponents were the admirals Klas Horn and Clas Eriksson Fleming . In 1571 Munk became a member of the Danish Imperial Council and in 1576 the first Danish Imperial Admiral ( Rigsadmiral ) - shortly before (1571) Fleming had been appointed the first Swedish Imperial Admiral ( Riksamiral ). From 1588 Munk was also a member of the Guardianship Council for Christian IV and from 1596 to 1608 Reichsmarschall ( Rigsmarsk ).
