Pedro Cruz Villalón

Pedro Cruz Villalón (* 1946 in Seville ) is a Spanish legal scholar . From 2009 to 2015 he was Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union .

Life

Cruz Villalón studied law at the University of Seville from 1963 and graduated in 1968 with a licentiate . In 1975 he received his doctorate from the same university and from 1969 to 1971 he completed postgraduate studies at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . From 1978 to 1986 he taught as an assistant professor of law and politics at the University of Seville, and in 1986 he took over the chair of constitutional law there , which he held until 1992. In addition, Cruz Villalón worked as a legal clerk at the Spanish Constitutional Court in 1986/87 , where he was a judge from 1992 to 1998 and as president from 1998 to 2001. He was then a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin in 2001/02 and held the chair for constitutional law at the Autonomous University of Madrid from 2002 to 2009 . Cruz Villalón was an elected member of the Council of State from 2004 to 2009.

On November 30, 2009, Cruz Villalón was appointed as the successor of the late Spanish Advocate General Dámaso Ruiz-Jarabo Colomer for the remaining term of office until October 6, 2015 as Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union.

He is a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen .
