Pedro Mesías

Pedro Mesías Campos (born January 3, 1926 in Santiago de Chile , † August 5, 2007 ) was a Chilean pianist and conductor.

Mesías studied at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música of Chile and completed his training in Argentina. For seven years he directed the Orquesta de la Radio Corporación , with which he made recordings for Odeón and RCA Victor . He toured Argentina, Peru and Mexico with the Teatro de Ensayo of the Universidad Católica .

He later moved to Argentina. There he worked for Radio Belgrano and Radio El Mundo . He also directed an orchestra in Buenos Aires and accompanied the singer Leo Marini as a pianist . In Mexico he performed with Pedro Vargas , Angélica María , Caterina Valente , Libertad Lamarque , Antonio Prieto and Lucho Gatica and won first prize as conductor and arranger at the Festival of the Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana in 1971 . In 1976 he also won the award for best conductor at the Festival Internacional de la Voz y la Canción in Puerto Rico.

In Spain he worked as a pianist with Rocío Jurado and Nati Mistral . After working in the USA and the Dominican Republic, he went to Venezuela, where he went on concert tours with the tenor Alfredo Sadel and made recordings.

In 2002 Mesías returned to Chile. Here he worked with the actress and singer Carmen Barros and led the orchestra of the La Cucaracha music hall for three years . He arranged compositions by Astor Piazzolla and the Beatles for the Orquesta de Cámara of the Teatro Municipal in Santiago .
