Carmen Aida Barros Alfonso (born January 7, 1925 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean singer, actress and composer.

The daughter of diplomat Tobias Barros Ortiz spent one year of her childhood in Lima, where her father was a military attaché. From 1940 to 1944 he was the Chilean ambassador to Germany and lived with his family in Berlin. During this time Carmen Barros had piano lessons with Martin Krause , the teacher of Claudio Arrau and Rosita Renard .

After her return to Chile she made her debut under the pseudonym Marianela as a singer with Radio Agricultura with songs like Lili Marleen and Parle-moi d'amour , successful titles by Frank Sinatra and Cole Porter and compositions by Pedro Vargas . She made her debut as an actress in 1944 in the film Bajo un cielo de gloria by José Bohr . For Miguel Frank's film Música en tu corazón (1946) she recorded the song Amorcito mío with the orchestra of Federico Ojada . In 1946 she sang the role of Marcelina in Beethoven's Fidelio at the Teatro Municipal . In 1950 she received a Premio Caupolicán of the Asociación de Cronistas de Cine, Teatro y Radio as best singer; Arturo Gatica was awarded as the best singer .

At the theater in Santiago in the early 1950s, Barros appeared in the musical comedy Carlos y Ana (with Lautaro Murúa , later with Luis Alberto Heiremans ) and in Arthur Schnitzler's Anatole . In the 1950s, while her father was ambassador to Italy, she lived in Vienna. At recitals in Chile she was accompanied by Federico Heinlein , Carlos Oxley and Rudy Leman .

Barros made her debut as a composer in 1958 with Esta señorita Trini . The musical comedy was directed by Luis Alberto Heiremans , the music arranged by Pedro Mesías . In 1960 she sang the role of Carmela in Francisco Flores del Campo's La Pérgola de las Flores , directed by Isidora Aguirre . In the 1960s she appeared in the program El tejado musical on the television channel of the Universidad Católica and played an LP with producer Camilo Fernández .

From 1967-68 she lived in Buenos Aires, where she appeared in a musical comedy and in the show by Raúl Matas . In 1970 she starred in the Chilean film La casa en que vivimos by Patricio Kaulen . After the military coup in 1973 she went to Nairobi to represent the UN. She did not return to Chile until 1982, where she appeared in telenovelas such as Los títeres (1984), Matrimonio de papel (1985), Secreto de familia (1986), La intrusa (1989), Acércate más (1990), El amor está de moda (1995), Piel canela (2001), Hippie (2004) and Papi Ricky (2007). She recorded the LP Regalo de Pascua with Theo Van Rees , Fernando Doggenweiler , Milo Cabré , Mario Bórquez , Enrique Orellana and Luis Meneses .

On the album Chile en mi voz she presented works by Osmán Pérez Freire , Armando González Malbrán , Francisco Flores del Campo , Vicente Bianchi , Chito Faró , Clara Solovera , Jaime Atria , Violeta Parra and Patricio Manns with the pianist Pedro Mesías . In 1996 she worked on Andrés Pérez 's production of La Pérgola de las Flores , and in 2002 she staged the play as a director. In 2001 she appeared in Andrés Wood's feature film La fiebre del loco , and in 2010 in Alejandro Goic's Mi Marilyn Monroe .
