Lautaro Murúa (born December 29, 1925 in Tacna , Chile , † December 3, 1995 in Madrid , Spain ) was an Argentine actor , film director and screenwriter .

Life

Beginnings as an actor

Although born in Chile, Lautaro Murúa was best known and famous for films in Argentine cinema . The then 32-year-old made his film debut in The Angel's House at Elsa Daniel's side . The film by Leopoldo Torre Nilsson was at the 1957 International Film Festival in Cannes shown and made his actors famous overnight. Murúa soon became one of the most sought-after actors of the 1950s. The actor worked with Leopold Torre Nilsson several times in the following years. For example, he stood in front of the camera for him in El secuestrador in 1958 and in Traitors of San Angel in 1967 .

Directorial work

In 1960 Lautrao Murúa made his directorial debut with the film Shunko . It is a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Jorge W. Ábalos , which was processed into a script by Augusto Roa Bastos . The film about a teacher trying to build a school in the poorer districts of Santiago del Estero was highly praised by the critics. The UNESCO is one of the work of the "Argentina's most important films of the last 100 years."

Murúa also worked again with the author Augusto Roa Bastos for his second film, Alias ​​Gardelito . Together with Bernardo Kordon, he wrote the script, which is based on Kordon's memories. The film, which shows the less beautiful side of the so-called "City of Dreams" Buenos Aires , won the most important Argentine film award, the Premios Cóndor de Plata , in 1968 . Lautaro Murúa is one of the representatives of the “new Argentine cinema”, a style similar to film noir and the nouvelle vague that developed in the 1950s and 1960s. Most of his films are about the Argentine middle or lower class and the struggle for survival during the civil war.

Last years and death

Lautaro Murúa's last directorial work was a film adaptation of Osvaldo Soriano 's novel Cuarteles de invierno . He staged the story of an aging boxer and a tango singer during the military dictatorship in Argentina with Enrique Almada , Gogó Andreu and Patricio Contreras in the leading roles. Afterwards, Lataro Murúa only appeared as an actor. In his almost 40-year career, the actor had appeared in more than 60 films. He died of lung cancer in a hospital in Madrid in 1995 at the age of 69.
