Pedro Pullen Parente (born February 21, 1953 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian electrical engineer and politician. From 1999 to 2003 he was Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic of Brazil , the Casa Civil , in the Fernando Henrique Cardoso government . On May 19, 2016, he accepted the post of head of Petrobras , the most important group in Brazil, from the interim government under President Michel Temer . He is considered one of the best networked managers in Brazil.

Career

Pedro Parente began his professional career between 1971 and 1973 at Banco do Brasil in Rio de Janeiro. He later joined the Brazilian Central Bank , where he worked in administration until 1984. During this time he graduated in Electronics from the University of Brasilia in 1976 . In the José Sarney government , he was Deputy Secretary General in the Ministry of Finance from 1985 to 1986, and Deputy Finance Secretary from 1987 to 1988 and Secretary for Computer Programming in the same ministry. He served as the Casa Civil's chief of staff from 1994 to 2002in the Treasury. In 1999 he was briefly Minister of Planning in the José Sarney government, working with the IMF in this capacity . In 2002 he was a member of the Fernando Henrique Cardoso cabinet as Minister for Mines and Energy . He then coordinated Fernando Henrique Cardoso's transition team until Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's presidency began .

After leaving the government, Parente was Executive Vice President of the RBS group in Brazil. In 2003 he was CEO of the American raw materials company Bunge , which has its roots in South America . He was also on the board of directors of the airline TAM Linhas Aéreas . He later went into business for himself as a financial advisor with his wife. Pedro Parente will remain President of the Board of Directors of the São Paulo Stock Exchange after his appointment to the helm of Petrobras .

Private

He is married to Lucie Kaufmann. He used to have two other marriages, with Maria Lucia Carvalho, with whom he has three children, and with Gecy Belmonte, with whom he has a daughter.
