society

The striker began his professional career in 1956 with the then third division club Gimnástica de Torrelavega . In the following year he moved to league competitor Sociedad Deportiva Rayo Cantabria . Again, it only took one season before Zaballa decided to make another move. The then first division team Racing Santander became aware of the attacker and signed him for the 1958/59 season. In Santander, Zaballa made it a regular player. In three years he was one of the team's top performers. In the summer of 1961, the Spanish top club FC Barcelona finally announced the commitment of the player. Zaballa played for Barça from 1961 to 1967. He is particularly remembered by Barça supporters when he scored the 2000th league goal in club history. Winning the Copa del Rey in 1963 and the success in the trade fair trophy in 1965/66 are among the greatest successes of this time . In the all-Spanish final from back then, Barcelona won the final after a 1-0 defeat in the first leg and a 4-2 win after extra time in the second leg. For the 1967/68 season, active for CE Sabadell since the beginning of the season , Zaballa moved into the center of the action for a special action in the game against Real Madrid . The striker suddenly stopped an attack for his team and pushed the ball out of the way when he saw that his opponent Andrés Junquera was injured on the ground. He was later awarded a "Fair Play" prize by UNESCO in Paris for this gesture . In 1968/69 he was fourth in the Primera División with Sabadell . This also meant the best placement in the club's history and qualification for the Messestädte-Pokal . In the first game against Club Brugge , Zaballa scored his team's first international goal in a 2-0 win. In the second leg they lost 1: 5 and had to retire. For the 1970/71 season, the offensive player changed one last time to end his career at Real Oviedo .

National team

In his only international match for Spain on April 8, 1964 against Ireland , he scored both goals to make it 2-0.
