Peebles Island State Park is a state park located at the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers in the parish of Waterford , New York , United States. The park covers an area of 190 acres (77 hectares ), the largest part of which is on the eponymous island of Peebles Island (also Peobles Island ) and belongs to Saratoga County . The smaller part of the park belongs to Albany County .
geography
Peebles Island makes up the bulk of the park, with the Matton Shipyard on neighboring Van Schaick Island in Cohoes also belonging to the park. The Mohawk River forms several arms at this point before it joins the Hudson River.
On the grounds of the park are the headquarters of the New York State's Bureau of Historic Sites and the Bureau of Historic Preservation Field Services in a converted factory. In the so-called Peebles Island Resource Center there is also a visitor center on the industrial history.
Freetime activities
The park offers hiking trails, ski trails, entrenchments from the American Revolutionary War and the visitor center that provides information about the history of the island. There are also picnic areas and fishing opportunities.
