There are more than 5800 unique entries and historic districts on the National Register of Historic Places in this state . They are found in all 62 counties in the state . 258 of these entries are also designated as National Historic Landmarks .

The number of individually registered properties and historic districts is not immediately apparent from the National Register. The numbers given here result from the listing of the entries according to the individual counties.

  1. The figures quoted are based on the best possible information. Since there are often new entries and occasionally entries are revoked, this information may not reflect the latest status. Increases in the boundaries of historic districts are not counted as additional entries, even if they are usually given a new identification number by the National Park Service . However, the Grand Central Terminal Park Avenue Viaduct is an exception to this procedure , which is counted here as a separate resource, although the building was actually included in the register as a supplement to the Grand Central Terminal .
