Pehenuka's false door |
Pehenuka was an ancient Egyptian official in the 5th Dynasty who served as a vizier . In addition, he also held other important offices, such as that of treasury manager , manager of the double barn , manager of all the king's work and manager of the king's recorder .
Pehenuka is mainly known from its mastaba in Saqqara (Mariette number D 70), which is one of the largest private mastabas in Saqqara. Large parts of the grave decoration were copied and published in the middle of the 19th century under Karl Richard Lepsius (Lepsius grave number LS 15). The wife of Pehenuka named Hetepheres, a son named Iti and his eldest son Ptahchuu also appear in the tomb.
The reliefs of the mastaba were brought to the Egyptian Museum in Berlin after they were found, and the false door was severely damaged after they were found.
Pehenuka probably dates to the 5th dynasty. Next to his mastaba is that of Sheepsi, who served under King Sahure and was probably his father. Pehenuka therefore dates about a generation later.
