description

Vegetative characteristics

The species grows as a geophyte and is 10 to 30 centimeters high. The green and stalked leaves have an irregular, deeply pinnately lobed to double pinnate blade and are densely hairy with pressed hair.

Generative characteristics

The inflorescence is branched into 2 to 4 partial inflorescences and these each carry 13 to 32, sometimes up to 40, individual flowers. The flower cup is twice as long as the calyx. The five pale yellow or cream-colored petals form a sheath-like structure with their tightly drawn nails. The upper two tongue-shaped petals are bent to the side and have wine-red feather-like markings. The lower three spatulate petals are drawn pale pink at the base. Of the five fertile stamens , an upper and two lateral ones are very short and hidden in the sheath-like petal bases. Two additional, lateral stamens are bent back. The pollen is orange and the stigma is dark pink in color.
