The peled vendace ( Coregonus peled ) is a freshwater fish from the salmon fish family .
features
The peled vendace has a flattened, high-backed body and a very small head with a pointed snout . It reaches a maximum body length of up to 75 centimeters with a weight of approx. 13.8 kilograms.
Way of life
It feeds on small invertebrates and, when old, also on small fish. The spawning rise begins in the months of July to August. Their spawning season extends from September to November. Up to 105,000 eggs per female are laid on gravel and sand banks. In Russia this species is of great importance in fishing.
Occurrence
It lives in the lower reaches of large rivers and in lakes from Siberia to the catchment area of the Baltic Sea ( Finland , Sweden , Denmark ) in a water depth of about 35 meters.
