Pendleton is a municipality in Madison County , Indiana , United States about 25 km northeast of Indianapolis with about 3800 inhabitants (as of 2005).
Pendleton is home to the secondary schools of southern Madison County, and Pendleton Heights High School, the largest, has around 1,000 students.
history
The first settlers of European descent came to Pendleton in 1818 ; In 1823 the administration of the newly formed Madison County was settled here; around this the village arose. In 1830 the village was renamed Pendleton.
Before that, in the 1820s, the Madison County Court in Pendleton first hanged White Americans for the murder of Indians after a death sentence. At the end of the 19th century, the county’s administrative headquarters moved to Anderson .
