features

Macroscopic features

Peniophorella tsugae has resupinate , membranous-waxy fruiting bodies typical of the genus Peniophorella . They are whitish or light grayish to ocher in color. Your hymenium is smooth under the naked eye, but shows pores under a magnifying glass. The edges of the basidiocarpia do not have clear contours.

Microscopic features

As with all Peniophorella species, the hyphae structure of Peniophorella tsugae is monomitic, i.e. it only has generative hyphae . The 3–4  µm wide hyphae are hyaline , thick or thin-walled and heavily branched, the septa always have buckles . The cystidia of the species fall into two different groups: spindle-shaped, pointed, 50–80 × 6–10 µm in size and protruding beyond the basidia , as well as head-shaped, 30–50 × 5–8 µm in size and covered with brownish droplets. The basidia of the species are club-shaped, have four sterigmata and measure 20–35 × 5–6 µm. They have a buckle at the base . Their spores are ellipsoidal and slightly curved, hyaline and thin-walled. They measure 8–10 × 4–5 µm, are inamyloid and always have an extension.

distribution

The known distribution of the species includes a Holarctic area with Europe and North America .

ecology

Peniophorella tsugae grows on rotten dead wood of coniferous and deciduous trees , such as black alder ( Alnus nigra ), pine ( Pinus pinea ) or Canadian hemlock ( Tsuga canadensis ).
