The Pepes Beeke is a geographically left-hand tributary of the Röbbeck in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

geography

The Pepes Beeke rises on the northern flank of the Velbert ridge between the field names Erlenwiese, Am Goren and Passiepen, all of which refer to the water-rich spring basin and the adjacent Siepen . It runs over 800 m in an extensive valley floor to the northwest. Below the Röbbeck farm , the valley widens into a meadow landscape. Approx. The Pepes Beeke flows into the Röbbeck 800 m below the source.

etymology

The eponymous Kotten Pepes was mentioned for the first time in the Turkish tax list from 1508 to 1521 as Pipisskaten (1600 Pipeßkotten) in the former farmers of Rottberg . In the original map from 1843, the body of water is named Rebbecker Bach, as it runs directly below Hof Röbbeck. It was only in the context of the general recording of the flowing waters that Röbbeck became the name for the longer northern branch, while the Pepes Beeke got the name of the nearby Kotten.

Hydropower

The Rottberger seasonal mill was located on a mill pond that was fed equally by the Röbbeck and the Pepes Beeke. In 1828 the mill had 1 overshot water wheel and 2 grinding courses (rye / wheat). The inflow, fed only by mountain water, did not allow operation in summer.

nature

When Eintrachtstrasse was built in the 1930s, the stream was largely canalized. With the expansion of the Röbbeck industrial park in the 1980s, the upper course next to Zeiss Strasse was also forced into an inadequate bed, which is more reminiscent of a ditch.
