PepperShop is a commercial online shop system with a web-based checkout solution that has been developed in Switzerland since 2001 .

The software is administered via the web interface and can be adapted to the needs of the operator. It comes from a university project. The strengths of the PepperShop are flexibility and a modular, open and performance-oriented concept. PepperShop is particularly popular in Switzerland and German-speaking countries. Since the core and modules are developed exclusively by the manufacturer, the system has been upgradeable for years, even with adjustments.

history

PepperShop started in 2001 as a diploma thesis by José Fontanil and Reto Glanzmann on e-commerce at what was then the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Winterthur, now the Zurich University of Applied Sciences . The open source project, originally licensed under the GNU General Public License , with a focus on the German-speaking area, was later supplemented by a sponsorship model for further developments and then transferred to a commercially licensed system under the manufacturer Glarotech GmbH based in Wil SG , where software development is carried out takes place until today. The source text is disclosed to every customer and he is entitled to make adjustments to it for himself.

In 2016 there was a rebranding, PhPepperShop became PepperShop. In the same year, the system was supplemented by a purely web-based cash register solution PepperShop POS, which can do without any hardware and is independent of location. Your own laptop and, if desired, an existing printer are sufficient for operation. The system also offers a payment terminal from SIX Payment Services connected directly via a browser via TIM JS API and a connection to Innocard via ZVT, so that no local servers are required. The system now supports professional POS hardware, for example the i-series from Epson . In 2019, the two software systems PepperShop E-Commerce and the PepperShop POS POS system were linked even more closely with the implementation of many omnichannel processes.

distribution

PepperShop is mostly operated in the ASP model , but it can also be purchased and installed at a location of your choice . The software is distributed by Glarotech GmbH itself or by partner companies. It can be used as standard software or introduced as part of a planned implementation. The POS system is only offered for rent as software as a service .

Editions

Basic Edition

Contains the core of the shop system with the payment service providers widely used in Switzerland. It is intended as an entry-level product that is not offered for rent. Themes and layout management are available for design adjustments.

Professional Edition

In addition to the Basic Edition with editable HTML templates, this solution offers more options for intervening in the layout and the option of adding modules. There is also more flexibility in the core with freely usable additional fields and cross-selling.

Enterprise Edition

As soon as an ERP system is to be connected, the enterprise version is required. It offers an interface for merchandise management systems and order processing from ERP systems. The cash register system is often linked directly to financial accounting.
