Percy Greg (born January 7, 1836 in Bury , † December 24, 1889 in London ) was an English writer .

His best known work is the science fiction novel Across the Zodiac , published in 1880 , which is about a journey to the planet Mars . Greg used the term astronaut here for the first time , which he used to refer to the protagonist's spaceship. He is considered to be the first author who dealt with a (fictional) extraterrestrial language and constructed it extensively for his book.

Even the word spaceship ( English space ship ) took his book in this context, for the first time using during a review Pall Mall Gazette , for his father William Rathbone Greg wrote.
