The canton Brackwede was an administrative unit in the Bielefeld district of the Weser department in the Kingdom of Westphalia from 1807 to 1810 at the time of Napoléon Bonaparte . After the annexation of the areas west of the Weser by the French Empire , the canton belonged to the Fulda department from 1812 to 1813 . The main town of the canton and seat of the justice of the peace was Brackwede , now part of Bielefeld .

The canton comprised two municipalities , namely Brackwede and Steinhagen . The municipality of Brackwede included Brackwede, Ummeln , Senne , Sandhagen , from 1812 also from Heepen-Senne. The municipality of Steinhagen consisted of Steinhagen, Holtkamp , Isselhorst , Hollen , Ebbesloh and Niehorst . In 1812 both municipalities were merged, but Steinhagen was eliminated. The canton thus consisted of only one municipality.

Eleven men from the canton of Brackwede took part in the Russian campaign in 1812 , one each from Hollen and Ummeln and three each from Brackwede, Isselhorst and Senne.
