Pere Miquel Carbonell i de Soler (born February 8, 1434 in Barcelona , † April 2, 1517 ibid) was a Catalan historian , notary , poet and humanist .

Life

Pere Miquel was born in Barcelona in 1434 and was the only son of Francesc Carbonell and Joana des Soler. There are probably no detailed records of his school and training time in the literature.

In 1458 he became a notary at the court of King Alfonso V of Aragon , a position endorsed by John II of Aragon . John II himself appointed Carbonell archivist and royal scribe in 1476 . His first work, which Carbonell wrote on behalf of Ferdinand II of Aragon , is a history, in Catalan, about the life, illness, death and burial of King John II. He also wrote a series of fifteen biographies about important scientists this era. He wrote these in the Latin language. De viris illustribus catalanis suae tempestatis is one of the most extensive chronicles (Chroniques de Espanya) he wrote in 1495.

In 1496, on behalf of King Ferdinand II, he wrote Genealogia dels comtes-reis , a genealogy of the Catalan counts. In 1516, a year before his death, Carbonell wrote a documentation and summary of the history and trials of the Inquisition in Barcelona. However, it was not published until 1864 by Manuel de Bofarull y de Sartorio , the archivist of the Crown of Aragon, who transcribed the most important tracts . This work later became one of the essential sources for research on Judaism .

Carbonell's works are in the archives of the Crown of Aragon (Arxiu de la Corona d'Aragó) and other works, some of which are loose leaf collections, are kept in the library of Pere Miguel Carbonell in the archives of Girona Cathedral.
