Manuel de Bofarull y de Sartorio

Manuel de Bofarull y de Sartorio (* 1816 in Barcelona ; † November 26, 1892 ibid) was a Catalan historian and archivist .

He studied law at the Acadèmia de Bones Lletres in Barcelona. In 1849 he succeeded his father, Pròsper de Bofarull i Mascaró, as director of the archives of the Crown of Aragon (Arxiu de la Corona d'Aragó) , where he had previously worked as an intern. From 1853 onwards, after many difficulties and thanks to a donation of 50,000  pesetas, he collected historical archives in the former viceroy's palace and thus continued the work of his father, who died in 1849. From this collection transcribed de Bofarull documents he in 41 volumes under the general title Colección de Documentos Inéditos del Archivo General de la Corona de Aragón published.

De Bofarull was a member of the Commission for the Preservation of Monuments and Art, under his direction also 6506 volumes from monastery libraries were restored and revised. He directed the restoration of the cloister of Sant Cugat (province of Barcelona). As a member of the Royal Academy of History in Madrid ( Real Academia de la Historia ) , he published other collections of sources on Spanish and foreign history.
