description

Pereskia diaz-romeroana grows shrubby and reaches heights of 0.5 to 3 meters. The spindle- to spherical roots are fleshy. The gray or brown, upright and overhanging branches have peeling bark and measure about 2 centimeters in diameter. The indistinctly stalked leaves are elliptical to ovate. The leaf blade is 2 to 3.5 inches long and 1 to 2.2 inches wide. The leaflet- shaped leaf veins have three to four branches. The midrib protrudes from the bottom. There are two to five, 15 to 22 millimeter long thorns on the branches . On older branches there can be up to twelve areoles each . They are straight to slightly bent back, of unequal length and a length of 5 to 30 millimeters.

The flowers are terminal or appear laterally. Sometimes they stand alone, but usually in groups of two or three. The stalked or sessile, pink to bright red flowers reach a diameter of 1 to 2 centimeters. The ovary is arranged in the middle to almost on top. The broad, obovate, shiny black, fleshy, soft fruits are covered with matted, white hairs at their tips and have a persistent flower remnant. They reach a diameter of up to 13 millimeters.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.
