Albert Jäger , from 1869 Ritter von Jäger , (born November 23, 1814 in Kempten , † February 19, 1884 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) was government director and director of the Palatinate Ludwig Railway Company , and from 1870 of the Palatinate Railways .

Live and act

Jäger was born as the son of the pedagogue Georg Jäger (1778–1863) and his wife Friedericke born in Düsseldorf . von Ravenstein born in Kempten. The father - who was promoted to court counselor in 1830 and received the personal title of nobility in 1850 - worked there as a grammar school teacher from 1804. In 1817 he was transferred to Speyer , where his son Albert attended his father's high school in Speyer from 1825 to 1833 . He then went to the universities of Munich and Heidelberg to study law until 1837 . In the following two years he passed his legal traineeship in Frankenthal and Zweibrücken as well as the state examination with good success. From March 1840 he spent six months further studies in Dijon before going into civil service.

After a successful visit to the superior finance authority, he was appointed managing director for the construction of the Palatinate Ludwig Railway on April 25, 1844 . After the completion of this railway line, the office moved to the more conveniently located Ludwigshafen. The construction of the most important railway lines falls into the time of his 40 years of management, initially as "sub-director" under Paul Camille von Denis , from 1856 as 1st director. In 1862 he received the title and rank of the royal government council, in 1870 he advanced to head of the Palatinate Railways , and in 1880 he became government director. In addition, he has received high awards.

Jäger is also considered a patron by financing young musicians such as Ludwig Boslet for their studies. He was also active in his parish. Among other things, he initiated the new building of the Catholic Church of St. Ludwig (Ludwigshafen am Rhein) "to increase worship" . There he was - also in the successor of Paul Camille von Denis - from 1856 until his death chairman of the parish council . He is considered to be the founder of the Pfarr-Cäcilienverein (church choir), and on Sundays and public holidays he occasionally conducted church concerts.

On August 10, 1843, Jäger married Karolina Gertrude Olivier from Oggersheim , whose father came from Belfort to the Palatinate as a French tax officer . Of the couple's six children, only three reached adulthood. The daughter Maria Jäger (1849–1923) joined the order of the Niederbronn Sisters as sister Maria Auguste and worked as an organist in the mother house in Oberbronn .

The Jägersche Haus in Ludwigshafen was the meeting point for numerous high-ranking personalities from church life. Regular guests included a. the bishops Johannes von Geissel , Andreas Räß , Konrad Reither , Daniel Bonifaz von Haneberg , as well as the canons Sigmund Joseph Zimmer and Wilhelm Molitor .
