description

Pereskia guamacho grows tree-like to shrubby and reaches heights of 4 to 8 meters. A short, usually 1 to 2 meter high and up to 25 centimeters thick, brownish gray, smooth trunk is formed. The long-stalked leaves are of different shapes and sizes. The narrow obovate to elliptical leaf blade is 2 to 9 inches long and 1 to 6 inches wide. The petiole is 1 to 5 millimeters long. The almost hand-shaped to pinnate-shaped nerve of the leaf blade has three to four branches. The areoles often have the shape of button-like short shoots on older branches . On the branches there are up to two horizontally protruding, 5 to 20 millimeter long thorns per areole . 50 to 60 thorns per areole are formed on the trunk and are 3 to 5 centimeters long.

The flowers appear laterally in front of the leaves on the branches. They are solitary or form inflorescences of two to three flowers. The seated, yellow flowers reach a diameter of 2 to 5 centimeters. The spherical to obovate, fleshy, green fruits have a diameter of 15 to 20 millimeters. The fruits are edible.
