The Perisites ( Hebrew פְּרִזִּי [ם] Prizzī [m] , or Pərisī [m] ) are a biblical tribe that is said to have lived in Canaan .

The tribe is the first time during the lifetime of Abraham mentioned gene 13.7  EU . He is not in the list of post-Flood families Canaan mentioned gene from 10.15 to 18  EU . The tribe is said to have lived at the time of the conquest of Canaan by Israel under the leadership of Joshua in the mountainous region of Canaan Jos 11:13  EU . The Israelite tribe of Judah defeated the Perisites in the course of immigration to their assigned territory; According to Ri 1,4-5  EU, the battle is said to have taken place in Besek (probably west of Jerusalem ). After the conquest of the land by the Israelites was complete, the Perisites are said to have lived in the mountainous area that was assigned to the Israelite tribe of Ephraim , Jos 17.15  EU .

Regarding the way of life, manners and customs of the Perisites, the Old Testament claims that they knew one or more of the following practices: sacrificing the firstborn children to deities and sodomy .

These practices are cited to justify the divine judgment of the extermination of this tribe, which was however incompletely enforced by the Israelites Lev 18.21-25  EU Dtn 3.5  EU Ri 3.5-6  EU . According to Ex 23.24  EU , the Israelites were forbidden to do anything that resembled the works of the Perisites.

In the Book of Kings, at the time of the Israelite King Solomon , Perisites who were not assimilated and who were obliged to do forced labor are mentioned 1 Kings 9 : 20-21  EU . The last biblical mention of the Perisites is in Ezr 9,1-2  EU after the return of the Israelites from the Babylonian exile .
