The Peronosporales form an order of the egg fungi (Peronosporomycetes), which can play an important role as pathogens .
Many plant diseases are classified as being caused by species of this order, but are sometimes thought to be caused by Pythiales species. Some of these protists are for diseases such as late blight of tomatoes or late blight of potatoes ( Phytophthora infestans ), eucalyptus death ( Phytophthora cinnamomi ), sudden oak death ( English : Phytophthora ramorum ) or the tobacco blue mold ( Peronospora hyoscyami f.sp. tabacina ).
