Perry Lopez (musician)
Perry Lopez (* actually Perfecto Macabata Lopez, 10. February 1924 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American jazz guitarist of Swing .
He first learned the mandolin and was active as a musician in Philadelphia from the 1940s. He played with Freddie Slack , Rocky Coluccio and in New York City with Buddy DeFranco , Billy Taylor , Ellis Larkins , Johnny Smith and in 1954 with Pete Rugolo . In 1955 he played in the Benny Goodman Octet. He played in Broadway orchestras and in his own trio.
Lopez recorded with Johnny Glasel , Leon Merian and Charlie Ventura , among others . He worked with Al Haig in 1960 .
Tom Lord's jazz discography lists ten recording sessions from 1954 to 1960.
