Pervenche Berès
Pervenche Berès (born March 10, 1957 in Paris ) is a French politician ( PS ). She was a member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 2019 .
Life and political career
After studying at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), which she graduated in 1978, Berès worked from 1981 to 1983 in the delegation of the French National Assembly to the European Communities , then until 1988 in the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly. From 1988 to 1992 she was an advisor to Laurent Fabius , who was President of the National Assembly at the time. From 1993 to 2004 Berès was a member of the board of the Parti socialiste , where she was responsible for development policy issues until 1995 . From 2001 to 2008 she was also a member of the Sèvres City Council .
In the European elections in 1994 Berès was first in the European Parliament elected. There she became a member of the group of the Party of European Socialists (PES), from 1997 to 2004 she was deputy group chairman. In the 1999 European elections , Berès was re-elected as the top candidate of the PS; In the same year, she was Vice-Chair of the European Parliament delegation to the first European Convention to draft the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights . From 2002 to 2003 she was a deputy member of the second European Convention that drafted the EU Constitutional Treaty.
After the 2004 European elections , Berès became chair of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs . After the European elections in 2009 , she was chair of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs for the legislative period until 2014 . In addition, she was a member of the Special Committee on the Financial, Economic and Social Crisis from 2009–2011 . In the 2014-2019 legislature, she was an ordinary member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and a delegate for relations with the United States.
