Petrov moved to Vienna in 1999 and studied there at the University of Applied Arts , a. a. with Viktor & Rolf and Raf Simons . Just like his teachers, whose designs often pushed the boundaries of traditional understanding of fashion, the designer is also a representative of the " genre blurring", the blurring of the lines between useful production and non-functional art . "The fashion designer Petar Petrov is a little shy, but has a determined manner. He is tall, slim and wears his own self-made clothes, which are all in black." During his studies he designed fashion for advertising campaigns and music videos, such as Be a good girl and Pirouzi , he founded his own label - PETAR PETROV, 'One of Some' - with simple, innovative men's fashion that has been presented every year in Paris since 2003; since 2004 it has been included in the official show calendar of Men's Fashion Week . He has also been designing women's wear since 200X. Petrov is represented in the United States , Japan , Hong Kong and Berlin .

His studio is located in an old building in Vienna's sixth district, Mariahilf .

style

Petrov's men's fashion is puristic with a western design. In contrast to this, neon colors, innovative material, graphic patterns, eastern style elements from his home country Bulgaria. Crossover between cultures, between high and low fashion - in the sense of the friction surfaces that his teacher Raf Simons provoked: unusual, but wearable.

“My work is a radically subjective reflection of reality from the perspective of an outsider. My collections should provoke and raise questions. (...). The encounter is my interest, not the meaning. My designs are a part of me, the personal approach is important to me, because my fashion has nothing to do with industrial goods. "

- Petar Petrov

Petrov's women's line serves a higher price segment and is sold internationally in multi-label stores . Their minimalist style is reflected in the choice of materials, color and fit, as well as in the unobtrusive cut. As complex as the creations are, they are casual and easy to wear.

exhibition

In 2011, Petar Petrov was invited by the Kunsthalle Wien to design an exhibition in the project space on Karlsplatz . The show was entitled Made to measure . Together with the designer Tino Valentinitsch and the musician Soap & Skin , he devised a virtual space within the room. His play with its limits was reminiscent of Gottfried Semper's clothing theory : “Architecture in its clothing function serves to protect and envelops the space of human culture. Semper saw the origin of architecture in textiles, in weaving and plaiting by hand, in the light architecture of the nomads. The virtual walls of Petrov's room act like a metaphor for it. ”The furniture oscillated between spartan and barren conditions and luxurious and noble character. The sound work was spread over several sound tracks, which could be heard individually or in different constellations, thereby generating different spatial sensations.

The exhibition was broadcast on the internet for its duration.

  7. On this page and in other places the nationality is wrongly stated as Ukrainian. It can be assumed that the Bulgarian nationality indicated by the artist himself - in the context of the Kunsthalle exhibition - and by the standard is correct.
