Pete Minger

Pete Minger (* 22. January 1943 in Orangeburg , South Carolina ; † 13. April 2000 in Pompano Beach ( Florida )) was an American jazz - trumpet and flugelhorn player .

Pete Minger came from a musical family; his mother and grandmother played the piano in the local church. His brother was also a jazz pianist. He first played the saxophone, then switched to the trumpet. In the early 1960s his music career began with Chubby Jackson . From 1970 to 1980 he was a member of the Count Basie Orchestra , to hear a. a. on the album Digital III at Montreux . He also worked on Basie's collaborations with Big Joe Turner , Milt Jackson and Ella Fitzgerald . After working at Basie, he moved to Florida , where he graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in music in 1985. He later taught there, but otherwise worked full-time as a musician. In 1990, he went with the big band of Frank Wess on tour to hear on the album Live at the Concord Jazz Festival in 1990; he also worked with Mel Tormé . In the Florida jazz scene, he drew attention to himself with two albums in particular, Minger Paintings (published by Jazz Alliance 1991) and Look To The Sky (by Concord Jazz , 1992)
