Kiyoshi Kitagawa

Kiyoshi Kitagawa ( Japanese 北 川 潔 , Kitagawa Kiyoshi ; * 1958 in Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz bassist living in the United States .

Live and act

Kiyoshi Kitagawa began playing guitar at the age of 14 before switching to the double bass at the age of 19 . In the mid-1980s he worked a. a. with Sadayasu Fujii , with whom the first recordings were made; after moving to New York City , he worked with the Harper Brothers , Pete Minger , Susannah McCorkle , Kenny Garrett , Makoto Ozone , Jimmy Heath , Satoshi Inoue , Andy Bey , Ben Riley , Jon Faddis and Michael Rodriguez .

In November 2003 Kitagawa recorded his debut album Ancestry , on which Brian Blade and Kenny Barron contributed; In 2005, Prayer followed with the same line-up . He also presented a solo album in 2000 and 2007 respectively. In 2010, he accompanied Regina Carter with the Monterey All Stars . In 2014 he also played in the quintet of Charles McPherson . In the field of jazz he was involved in 29 recording sessions between 1984 and 2012. In 2018 he played in the trio of Kenny Barron, in 2019 in the Steve Nelson Quartet.

Kitagawa lives in Brooklyn .
