Peter-Christian Müller-Graff (born September 29, 1945 in Freising ) is a German legal scholar at Heidelberg University . He has a habilitation and has received several honorary doctorates.

Professional career and work

Müller-Graff studied law at the Universities of Göttingen , Berlin (FU) and Tübingen and was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation. The first legal state examination (1969) was followed by a study and research stay at Cornell University , from 1970 to 1974 the legal clerkship, 1973 doctorate with Ludwig Raiser and 1974 the second state examination. From 1974 to 1982 Müller-Graff was a research assistant to Wernhard Möschel and qualified as a professor on the subject of "Corporate Investments and Investment Management in Market Law". From 1982 to 1986 he was a professor at the University of Cologne . In 1986, he succeeded Uwe John as full professor at the University of Trier . In 1994 he moved to the University of Heidelberg , where he taught until his retirement in 2016 and then became a senior professor . In Heidelberg he was dean of the law faculty from 1999 to 2004 . From 2002 to 2004 he was an advisor to the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg on his membership in the European Constitutional Convention. Müller-Graff is co-editor of numerous legal journals and a member of numerous scientific associations, including chairman of the board of the European Integration Working Group (AEI). From 2013 to 2015 he was chairman of the German Law Faculty Conference; In 2016 he became its honorary chairman.

Müller-Graff's students are Cordula Stumpf (formerly professor at the University of Halle), Friedemann Kainer (professor for commercial and labor law at the University of Mannheim), Roman Guski (private lecturer at the Free University of Berlin) and Julia Lübke (private lecturer at the University of Göttingen ).

Research focus

Müller-Graff mainly deals with German and European private and commercial law as well as with European constitutional law. His publications focus on fundamental questions of economic and constitutional law (e.g. the problem of investment control and, in general, the relationship between freedom and control in the European internal market ) and European integration. Later he did a lot of research on questions of European constitutional law and was an advisor to the Baden-Württemberg member of the Constitutional Convention ( European Convention ) 2002/2003. Müller-Graff is the author and editor of around 700 books and articles.
