Uwe John (lawyer)

Uwe John (born September 22, 1942 in Koenigsberg ; † April 6, 1985 in Saarbrücken ) was a German author , lawyer and university professor.

Life

Uwe John was born in what is now Kaliningrad , where his father worked as an employee of the Reichspost . John's father and grandfather were lawyers. John went to school in Bad Segeberg , Kiel and Stuttgart . From 1962 to 1966 he studied law in Tübingen and Freiburg . In 1969 he was with Joseph Georg Wolf in Freiburg with a thesis on the "interpretation of the bequest of property, plant populations in Roman law to Labeo " doctorate . In 1971, John passed the Second State Exam in Law . Then he became a research assistant to Hans-Martin Pawlowski at the University of Mannheim . There he was at the beginning of the summer semester 1976 due to the treatise "The organized legal entity system and problems of personification in civil law" habilitation and acquired the license to teach Civil Law, Roman law, commercial and corporate law. In 1977 John received a professorship at the University of Mainz . In 1982 he became a full professor for civil, commercial and corporate law at the University of Trier .

In 1985 John had a fatal accident in his parents' house while trying to adjust the television antenna on the roof. The University of Trier honored John with an academic commemoration.

John's successor to the Trier professorship was Peter-Christian Müller-Graff .

Even as a schoolboy, John wrote the youth novel “The Primus and the New”, which is about a student having to assert himself in his new class. John's dissertation is devoted to pre-classical Roman law . It deals with a specific problem of the interpretation of wills . In his later works, John was primarily concerned with the legal-dogmatic analysis of problems of company law. He dealt with the so-called one-man GmbH and the civil society .
