Peter-Josef Schallberger (born July 19, 1932 in Ennetmoos , Canton Nidwalden ; † April 15, 2010 ibid) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ).

biography

Peter-Josef Berger sound was the son of Edward Schallenberger, the mayor of Ennetmoos. He attended the agricultural school in Altdorf and in 1959 took over his father's farm on Rotzberg .

Schallberger chaired the Nidwalden Farmers 'Association from 1960 to 1970, from 1974 to 1995 he was a committee member of the Swiss Farmers' Association and from 1988 to 2003 of the Swiss Working Group for Mountain Regions (honorary member since 2003). From 1977 to 1979 he was also a farm manager in Central Switzerland.

From 1964 to 1969 he was a school cashier (member of the school council) in Ennetmoos. At the same time he was a criminal judge from 1966 to 1970 . He began his political career as a representative of the CVP in 1968 when he was elected mayor of Ennetmoos, an office which he held until 1984. In 1970 he was elected a member of the district administrator of the canton of Nidwalden and was a member of it until 1990. In 1990 he was elected to succeed Norbert Zumbühl as representative of the canton of Nidwalden in the Council of States , to which he was a member until 1999. During his membership he was a member and temporarily also President of the Commission for Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy (UREK). Marianne Slongo became his successor in the Council of States .
