Peter Albach (born July 26, 1956 in Sömmerda ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and former member of the German Bundestag.

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1975 at the "Ernst Schneller" Extended High School (EOS) in Sömmerda, Albach did his military service in the medical service of the National People's Army and then from 1978 worked as a clerk in the Sömmerda office machinery plant. From 1978 to 1984 graduated Albach a distance learning the law , which he described as a graduate lawyer ended. Albach then worked as a legal advisor at the Weissensee furniture factory and, from 1986, at the LPG Kindelbrück .

Peter Albach has been married since 1976 and has two children.

In December 1989 Albach was one of the founding members of the Democratic Awakening in Leipzig , was a member of the state board of the DA Thuringia and was a member of the Political Advisory Committee on Education in the State of Thuringia. In October 1990 he joined the CDU.

Albach was mayor of the city ​​of Weißensee in Thuringia from May 1990 to June 2015 . He was first chairman of the Thuringian Basin drinking water association and deputy chairman of the northern / eastern long-distance water association until he was elected to the German Bundestag in 2005. From 2004 to 2009, Albach was a member of the district council of the Sömmerda district .

As a direct candidate for the CDU in the constituency of Kyffhäuserkreis - Sömmerda - Weimarer Land I, he achieved 30.9% of the first votes in the 2005 Bundestag election and was a directly elected member of the German Bundestag. He did not run for the 2009 Bundestag election.

In 2012 he was re-elected chairman of the drinking water association and was also chairman of the supervisory board of BEWA Sömmerda. He held these offices until his resignation from the mayor of Weißensee in 2015.

In December 2007, the Thuringian state representative in Berlin showed an exhibition of Albach's works, which he created as a draftsman.

Since his retirement from federal politics, he devoted himself increasingly to painting and graphics. After resigning as mayor of the city of Weißensee, Peter Albach devoted himself entirely to painting.
