Peter Altmeyer

Peter Altmeyer (born February 17, 1945 in Günzburg ) is a German dermatologist . Until 2014 he was the chief physician of the dermatological clinic at St. Josef-Hospital Bochum ( University Clinic of the Ruhr-University Bochum ). During this time, researching and treating skin cancer was one of his scientific and medical focuses. The first prevention programs against skin cancer were initiated as early as the late 1980s under his leadership. In 1993 he founded the German Melanoma Society. In 1998 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class , for his commitment to the early detection of skin cancer .

Allergology, the treatment of AIDS patients and aesthetic medicine were developed by him as further focus areas of dermatology in the St. Josef Hospital in Bochum . In 2007 the vein center was founded. On the initiative of Peter Altmeyer, medical congresses were held in the Ruhr area , including the German Skin Cancer Congress (2006) and the annual conference of the German Society for Phlebology (2008).

Peter Altmeyer has worked on over 800 scientific and medical publications . He was the editor or author of 30 monographs , including the "Encyclopedia Dermatology, Venereology, Allergology and Environmental Medicine", a dermatology textbook that he made freely available on the Internet.

From 1995 to 1999 he was the medical director of the St. Josef Hospital in Bochum and from 1999 to 2003 its medical director. In 2007 he was appointed to the management of the Catholic Clinic in Bochum.

Altmeyer holds 8% of the shares in the "Nordseeklinik", a rehabilitation clinic on Borkum . In 2013 it was revealed that his Bochum interns were working there regularly without a permit, without receiving any further training. The Westphalia-Lippe Medical Association imposed a fine of 5,000 euros and shortened Altmeyer's training authorization.
