Peter Arens (lawyer)

Peter Arens (born August 10, 1933 in Magdeburg , † February 16, 1991 ) was a German law scholar and professor at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

Life

After graduating from the Lessing-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main , Arens began studying law at the University of Frankfurt am Main in 1953 . He finished this in 1957 with the first state examination in law. The following year, 1958, he completed his doctorate with Gerhard Schiedermair. iur. from. After the subsequent legal traineeship in Hesse and the second state examination in 1961, Arens worked as Schiedermair's research assistant until he completed his habilitation in 1967. With his habilitation, Arens received the venia legendi for the subjects civil law and civil procedural law. From 1967 until his untimely death in 1991, he succeeded Fritz von Hippel as the holder of the chair for civil law, civil procedural law, legal philosophy and international private law at the University of Freiburg . In Freiburg, Arens was a co-founder of the Institute for German and Foreign Civil Procedure Law and temporarily dean of the law faculty. 1988, he was from the Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto , the honorary doctorate awarded.
