Peter Arne , born as Peter Randolph Michael Albrecht (born September 29, 1918 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaya , British Colonial Empire; † August 1, 1983 in London - Knightsbridge , United Kingdom ), was a British actor in stage, film and television.

Life

The son of a Swiss woman and an American gained his first theater experience during the Second World War on repertoire stages in the British provinces. A moderate career began to emerge during the early 1950s. His play No Stranger premiered in 1953 , and a little later the 35-year-old actor was offered roles in local films.

Arne played several opaque types: pirates and Chinese, sheikhs and adventurers, but also lots of weird birds and crooks and, thanks to his German-speaking origins, several German officers of the Wehrmacht. He was also seen as a British soldier, for example in a suicide mission or as ice cold in Alexandria ; in the large-scale colonial strip of Khartoum he played Major Kitchener at the side of Charlton Heston and Laurence Olivier . At about the same time, Arne was also a guest in several episodes of various popular TV crime series such as Simon Templar , Der Baron , Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone and a secret mission for John Drake .

Peter Arne was killed on August 1, 1983 by a violent crime: he was killed in his apartment. The suspect was a homeless Italian teacher who lived in a park and whom Arne had previously provided with food several times.
