Peter Breunig (archaeologist)

Peter Breunig (born April 23, 1952 in Flörsheim am Main ) is a German prehistoric scientist .

Life

He studied prehistory, geology and ethnology in Frankfurt am Main and Cologne . After receiving his doctorate in 1983 with a thesis on the C14 chronology of the Near Eastern, Southeastern and Central European Neolithic and his habilitation in 1989 in Cologne with a paper on Der Brandberg - Investigations into the settlement history of a high mountain range in Namibia , he accepted the professorship in 1992 - and early history of Africa at Goethe University . From 1998 to 2002 he was the spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center 268 Cultural Development and Language History in the Natural Area of ​​the West African Savannah . Since 2003 he has been editor of the Journal of African Archeology (together with Sonja Magnavita).

His research focus is the prehistory of Africa (regional specialization: West Africa (own field work in: Burkina Faso , Namibia , Nigeria )) (research topics: origin and development of early peasant-pastoral communities in the Sahel region of West Africa (Neolithic West Africa) and cultural upheavals and innovations in ecological Transition zones).
