Peter Brunner (theater manager)

Peter Brunner (born November 5, 1954 in Zurich ) is the founder of even theater , which he directed for 20 years. He is married to the painter Doris Aebi and has a daughter from his first connection.

Career

Peter Brunner attended primary school in Opfikon-Glattbrugg . He completed a three-year commercial apprenticeship and, after working in an office, pursued various career paths. The work as a book antiquarian was followed by a job in the study library on the history of the labor movement of the Zurich bookseller Theo Pinkus . The keyword catalog developed by Brunner found its way into art: Chris Bünter used the compendium for his installation 2 Calls at Counter Space . During his time at the library, Brunner made his first contacts with the world of theater in connection with text concepts from archives. In 2004 he completed the four-year Advanced Studies in Cultural Management course at what is now the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

In 1998, Brunner initiated the “ even theater ” together with his wife Doris Aebi and related artists . Brunner managed the theater until the end of the 2017/18 season, is a dramaturge and producer. In 2000 the " even theater " received the theater prize of the canton of Zurich, in 2007 the social and cultural prize of the ZFV companies and in 2017 the gold medal of honor from the Zurich government council. This is an award for cultural institutions and initiatives that have made a name for themselves in cultural life in the canton of Zurich. From 1981 to 1984 Brunner belonged to the SP parliamentary group in the large municipal council (legislature) of Opfikon-Glattbrugg. Before that he was a member of the Opfikon-Glattbrugg municipal welfare commission. From 1998 to 2016 he was a founding member and president of the cooperative of the Zurich publishing house " edition8 ". Since 1989 he has published and published in connection with the activities in the study library on the history of the labor movement.
