The ZFV companies , based in Zurich, are a catering group with their own businesses and businesses that are run on behalf of third parties. In addition to a hotel chain that leads cooperative organized group also restaurants , staff restaurants , cafeterias and canteens , catering all kinds, a confectionery and pastry - and bakery business . The ZFV companies operate a total of 161 companies. In 2015, the group of companies employed 2,473 people and generated sales of 237.4 million Swiss francs.

history

The ZFV companies were founded in 1894 by Zurich's bourgeois women under the name Frauenverein für Mäßigkeit und Volkswohl with the aim of setting up non-alcoholic restaurants in which one could linger without alcohol pressure and drink a coffee or have a healthy meal. Susanna Orelli-Rinderknecht played a key role in the founding and success of the association.

In 1934 the women's association ran 18 non-alcoholic restaurants in Zurich: “Blauer Seidenhof”, “Karl der Grosse”, “Olivenbaum”, Volkshaus Helvetiaplatz, “Freya”, “Sonnenblick”, “Wasserrad”, Wipkingen parish hall , “Lettenhof”, “Platzpromenade” , “Rütli”, “Zur Limmat”, Rosengasse 10, “Frohsinn”, “Lindenbaum”, Kurhaus Zürichberg, Kurhaus Rigiblick and “Baumacker”.

Until 2002, the cooperative retained the name of the Zurich Women's Association for Alcohol-Free Businesses, which had existed since 1909 . Due to the social and economic changes, the ZFV companies have gradually relaxed the previous rigorous alcohol ban. After a change in the statutes in 2001, alcoholic beverages can now also be served.

Until 2000, the ZFV companies were only active in the Zurich area. Since then, they have expanded their range of activities and are now active throughout German-speaking Switzerland.

Field of activity

The catering group operates a total of 17 hotels in various Swiss cities under the name Sorell . It also operates 15 restaurants, mainly in Zurich and Bern, and 56 staff restaurants , 10 of which are from UBS and 24 from SBB .

The ZFV companies also operate a total of 55 cafeterias and canteens, mainly in Zurich, especially for the University of Zurich (11) as well as for various universities , cantonal, vocational and private schools.

In the area of ​​museum catering, the ZFV companies run businesses in various Swiss museums . They also run the catering in the Letzigrund stadium with a restaurant and 18 catering stands .

Other businesses managed by ZFV include the traditional Confiserie Schurter am Central in Zurich (at the Polybahn ), as well as the traditional bakery and pastry shop Kleiner with its 12 branches in and around Zurich (8 in the city of Zurich).

In Bern, the ZFV leads in the Federal Palace , the Parliament Restaurant Galerie des Alpes .
