Peter Carstens (geneticist)

Peter Carstens (born September 13, 1903 in Brunsbüttel , † January 1945 in Posen , Poland ) was a German animal breeding geneticist and SS- Oberführer (since 1944).

Life

The son of a teacher studied from 1924 to 1927 at the Agricultural University in Hohenheim . From 1928 to 1934 he was an assistant at the animal breeding institute in Hohenheim. Carstens became a member of the NSDAP in 1930 . From 1930 to 1933 he was also a member of the SA . In 1930 he received his doctorate in Hohenheim. In 1933 Carstens transferred from the SA to the SS. The habilitation followed in 1934 . In 1934 he became a professor for animal breeding at the Agricultural University in Hohenheim and was rector there from 1935 to 1938. In 1935 he became leader of the race and settlement main office . In 1940/41 he was part of the Poznan Settlement Staff and in 1941 he was appointed rector of the University of Poznan , on April 20, 1941, at the same time appointed SS-Standartenführer , promoted to SS-Oberführer in 1945 (with effect from 1944). In 1942 he was called up and handed over the office of the rectorate to Walter Geisler . In 1944 he was part of the leadership of the Nazi lecturers' association . He died in January 1945 during a battle in the Battle of Poznan .

Carstens was elected as its corresponding member in 1941, circumventing the election regulations of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
