Peter Conze

Peter Conze (born September 15, 1860 in Langenberg ; † July 5, 1939 in Spindelmühle ) was a German civil servant.

His parents were the silk factory owner Gottfried Friedrich Conze and his wife Maria geb. Colsman. Peter Conze was married to Berta geb. Schniewind, with whom he fathered three sons and two daughters.

Peter Conze attended the Rector's School in Langenberg and the grammar school in Gütersloh . He then studied law in Tübingen , Berlin , Leipzig and Bonn . He completed his studies in 1883 with a doctorate (Dr. jur.). During his studies he was a one-year volunteer from 1880 to 1881. In 1883 he began his career in the judicial service as a court trainee, but in 1885 he switched to the administrative service as a government trainee. In 1888 he became a government assessor and department head for commercial matters with the government in Düsseldorf. He moved to Berlin in 1890 when he was filled as an unskilled worker in the Prussian Ministry of Finance. In 1892 Conze became district administrator for the Mülheim / Ruhr district. After that, his career quickly continued. In 1899 he became a secret finance councilor and in 1902 a secret upper finance councilor in the Prussian Ministry of Finance. In 1906 Conze switched to the colonial department at the Foreign Office as acting director. After the department was converted into a Reich Colonial Office , Conze became Ministerial Director and in 1911 Undersecretary of State . In 1915, Conze was appointed a Real Secret Councilor with the title of Excellence. From 1916 to 1919 he was chairman of the Reich Committee to determine war damage. From 1920 to 1922 Conze was Reich Commissioner for Foreign Claims and from 1922 to 1924 Reich Plenipotentiary at the Reich Loan Fund.
