Peter Engelbrecht the Elder (* 1528 ; † 1598 in Ilsenburg ) was a German miner and monastery administrator.

Life

Peter Engelbrecht was the son of a Schwarzburg official of the same name in Sondershausen , Clingen and Straussberg and Anna born. Schmedes.

He first lived in Stolberg and from there came to Ilsenburg, where he worked in the brass trade and later became a factor in the ironworks. From May 1, 1580 to July 1597, Peter Engelbrecht was administrator of the Ilsenburg monastery . His son of the same name, Peter Engelbrecht from his marriage to Ottilie Brenling, represented him in the administration of the monastery from 1594 to 1597 after a stroke. The father not only made a name for himself as an enterprising miner, but he also promoted the monastery school and the school system in Ilsenburg in an exemplary manner that was not a matter of course at the time.

His brother Martin Engelbrecht (1532–1591) was the Count of Stolberg's ironworks factor and mayor of Wernigerode .
