Peter Fihn

Peter Fihn (born January 10, 1908 , in Gajdobra , Batschka ; † June 6, 1998 in Neckartenzlingen ) was a Yugoslav-German composer, conductor and musician.

Life

He had his first contact with music through a bandmaster in his birthplace, where he received instructions for clarinet , saxophone and violin . He later took part in the string orchestra and the wind orchestra in Gajdobra. In 1926 he joined the Royal Guard Regimental Music in Belgrade for three years . During this time he also studied at the Stankovic Conservatory in Belgrade. When he returned to Gajdobra , he became the conductor of the local wind orchestra. After the war, he lived with his family in Austria and moved to Germany in 1953 . There he was the conductor of the Swabian brass band Mittelstadt . He performed this task successfully for 30 years.

Peter Fihn has received numerous awards for his work, for example the gold cross of merit of the Federal Association of Brass Music, the Merit Pin and Federal Gold Medal of the German Folk Music Association and the Honor Pin of the Upper Austrian Brass Music Association .

In 1992 he was a guest at the New Year's reception of the Federal President in the Villa Hammerschmidt . "The marches, waltzes and polkas composed by him made German customs known and popular in Texas ...", praised Frau von Weizsäcker at the time.

His compositional oeuvre includes around 100 works.
