Life

Gessner studied mathematics at the Technical University of Munich , where he received his doctorate and habilitation. In 1972 he accepted a professorship for Operations Research from the University of Karlsruhe . In 1984 Gessner accepted a call from Ulm University . Here he took over the chair for corporate planning, which he held until 2005.

1973 Gessner was accepted into the board of the Allianz life insurance . From 1981 he was responsible for the strategic planning of the entire group, in 1983 he left the board. In 1987, he played a key role in founding db-Leben , the life insurance company of Deutsche Bank , which was initiated by the then spokesman for the board, Alfred Herrhausen, against the background of the then far- reaching bancassurance approach . In 1990 he founded Peter Gessner & Partner GmbH , which was later listed as COR AG and was incorporated into COR & FJA in 2009.

Gessner's focus in academic research and teaching was in the area of financial services and in particular on issues relating to insurance. He laid the foundation stone for the Institute for Finance and Actuarial Sciences , which is promoting this approach in cooperation with the University of Ulm. In particular, he dealt with transparency in the life insurance business. His work was on the one hand the basis for the proof of financial feasibility required by the Federal Office for Life Insurance from the beginning of the 1980s for the surplus participation value developments presented by the insurance broker to potential insurance customers as part of the consultation , on the other hand he put the transparency requirements in the life insurance of Deutsche Bank into practice by disclosing the development of their insurance credit and the proportional costs to customers.
