Gustav Zick
Peter Gustav Zick (born May 12, 1809 in Koblenz ; † March 30, 1886 there ) was a German painter.
Life
Zick was a grandson of the fresco painter Januarius Zick and a son of the portrait and landscape painter Konrad Zick , from whom he also learned the basics of painting. In the academic year 1829/30 he therefore entered the "upper class of performing artists" at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and initially studied animal painting. In 1832/33 he was a 1st class student of Wilhelm Schadow , from 1836 to 1839 he studied at the art academy in Berlin , where he had been sending his work to the "Academic Art Exhibition" since 1830. In 1840 he settled in Koblenz and worked there as a drawing teacher, copyist and restorer. In 1845 he restored the ceiling frescoes in the Koblenz Palace Chapel, which were destroyed in World War II. In 1851/52 , with Johann Baptist Bachta, he made an inventory of the Städtisches Langsche painting collection. In addition to depictions of animals, Zick also created portraits and landscapes. His portrait of Hugo Zieger from 1886 is kept in the Middle Rhine Museum in Koblenz.
Gustav Zick was the father of the painter Alexander Zick . Together with him, Gustav Zick created the painting “The Storm on the Sea”, painted in oil on hardened plaster, in the choir room of St. Nikolaus in Koblenz-Arenberg .
