Oskar Grether

Oskar Grether (born December 16, 1902 in Nuremberg ; † August 3, 1949 in Nebel auf Amrum ) was a German Protestant theologian and university professor.

Life

Oskar Grether was the son of the pharmacist Friedrich Grether.

He attended the Alte Gymnasium (today: Melanchthon-Gymnasium Nürnberg ) until 1922 , enrolled at the University of Erlangen and began studying theology, which he continued at the University of Tübingen and the University of Göttingen .

In March 1926 he passed his first theological exam in Ansbach and from May 1926 attended the preacher's seminary in Munich . In May 1928 he became the parish administrator at St. Markus Church in Augsburg and in January 1929 city vicar in Munich-Pasing .

On May 1, 1930, he began teaching as a repetitionist for the Old Testament and the Hebrew language at the University of Erlangen and passed his second theological exam in Ansbach in the fall of the same year.

On December 21, 1932 he received his doctorate at the University of Erlangen as a Lic. Theol. and completed his habilitation there on June 20, 1934 for the Old Testament, whereupon he began on January 17 at the university there as a private lecturer for the Old Testament.

On September 8, 1939, he was appointed lecturer in civil servant status. He became senior assistant on October 1, 1944 and on June 1, 1946 diet lecturer for Old Testament theology. He was appointed adjunct professor on May 19, 1947.

He was the chairman of the student review commission established by the military government.

Oskar Grether had been married since 1936 and had one child.
