Peter Adam Höher (* 1962 in Cologne ) is a German engineer and university lecturer ( professor ). He is head of the chair for information and coding theory at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel .

Life

Peter Adam Höher graduated from RWTH Aachen University with a degree in electrical engineering with a focus on communications engineering in 1986 . From 1986 to 1998 he was a research assistant and project manager at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in the Oberpfaffenhofen Research Center. He received his doctorate in 1990 from the University of Kaiserslautern . In 1992 he was a postdoctoral fellow at AT&T Bell Laboratories , Murray Hill , New Jersey . He spent further research stays in Australia, Canada and Hong Kong. Since 1998 he has been a professor at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. He is the author of two textbooks and numerous, often cited publications. His research interests are in the fields of wireless communications , channel coding, and applied information theory . His pioneering work includes software-defined radio (1988), soft-output Viterbi decoding (1989), OFDM channel estimation (1991), iterative ("turbo") decoding (1992/93), superposition modulation (2003) and information combining (2006) .

Peter Adam Höher is an IEEE Fellow and winner of the 2006 ITG Prize .
