Peter Harring

Peter Harring (born December 27, 1938 in Villach ; † November 21, 2013 in Klagenfurt ) was an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ) and bank director. From 1994 to 1999 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council and from 1979 to 1991 local council in Klagenfurt.

education and profession

Harring attended elementary school in Sattendorf on Ossiacher See between 1945 and 1949 and then graduated from the Bundesrealgymnasium in Villach from 1949 to 1957. He then studied law at the University of Graz from 1957 and received his doctorate in Graz in 1961 as a doctor of law (Dr. iur.). After completing his studies, Harring joined the Klagenfurt Regional Financial Directorate in 1961, where he worked until 1965. He then moved to the Carinthian Raiffeisen Association in 1965, where he was employed as head of personnel, credit officer and marketing manager and carried out these activities until 1983. As a result, he was finally appointed managing director of Raiffeisen-Bezirksbank Klagenfurt in 1983.

Politics and functions

Harring was a member of the municipal council of the state capital Klagenfurt between 1979 and 1991. He represented the FPÖ Carinthia from April 21, 1994 to April 7, 1999 and was chairman of the Federal Council's economic committee from 1996 to 1998. He was also Chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee from 1998 to 1999 and Deputy Chairman of the Finance Committee from 1996 to 1999. In addition, he was a member of the Foreign Policy Committee, a member of the Committee for Science and Research, a member of the Committee for Foreign Affairs, a member of the Committee for Economic Affairs, a member of the Standing Joint Committee within the meaning of Section 9 of the Financial Constitutional Law 1948 and a member of the EU Committee. From 1999 he was then Vice President of the Federal Seniors 'Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry for Social Security and Generations and was Deputy Federal Chairman and co-founder of the independent senior citizens' platform. In 2001, Jörg Haider appointed him senior representative for the state of Carinthia. In 2009 he withdrew from the senior citizens 'platform and ran again for the FPÖ in the local council election in Klagenfurt, pleading for a future merger of the liberal senior citizens' associations.

On the night of November 21st to 22nd, 2013, Peter Harring died in Klagenfurt of heart disease.
